13 Trees and the Poetry of Nature
Christine Whittemore, Roger Turner, Ruth End
Wednesday 14th May 2025
Take a walk beneath the boughs of some of Cheltenham's beautiful trees in this transporting event which includes poetry and visual art inspired by nature.
Poet/novelist Christine Whittemore, (Sudden Arabesque, Inscription), and artist Ruth End (River Days), present their collaborative book 13 Trees. They chose a Cheltenham tree for each month of the year and both responded to it, Ruth with art and Christine with a poem.
Roger Turner worked as an architect and a garden designer and has designed gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show and the Garden Festival in South Wales. He is the author of five non-fiction books, on landscape history, garden design, and plants. The poet U.A. Fanthorpe said of him, 'Turner is that not-often-found thing, a master of the sentence. His are like Hopkins' weeds, long, lovely and lush'. He is currently Chairman of the Cheltenham Poetry Society.
